Food Charity Initiative | Working to Reduce Hunger in the UK

As a buying consortium for the care industry, we’re well-placed here at Spectrum Care Ltd to offer our support to those in need.

So, we teamed up with the Shia Ismaili Muslim community and the food charity, FareShare, to support their campaign. Together, we combined our efforts to help reduce hunger in the UK.

Supporting the Food Charity: Reducing Hunger in the UK

According to FareShare, 7 million people in the UK are struggling to afford food - that’s 1 in 10 people. The crisis is set to inflate, with the continued rising cost of living. So, we all came together to support disadvantaged and vulnerable people across the UK.

As a company, we value equality. We ensure that businesses in the caring industry have access to quality products, services, and support. This includes small, independent care homes as well as large chains. With that in mind, we were in the perfect position to help distribute food to people in need, bridging the gaps in equality within the wider community.

Collaborating with Bidfood

Our brand, Spectrum Care Ltd, was set up by members of the Ismaili community in 2002, with a view to become a central hub where suppliers can connect with those in the care industry.

One of our trusted suppliers is Bidfood, a leading foodservice wholesaler. They generously supported us by donating £26,000 worth of food, topping up our initial £10,000.

Together, we provided essential meal supplies for 8,500 people at risk of hunger - that’s 3.5 tonnes of food!

Food Charity: Supporting Those in Need in the UK

Here at Spectrum Care Ltd, we’re honoured to have been able to help tens of thousands of people in need, and hope that we can continue to fight against hunger in the UK.

The President of the Shia Ismaili Council UK, Naushad Jivraj, said: “FareShare plays a critical role in supporting thousands of vulnerable people each week. This includes children, homeless people and the elderly.

“There has never been a more urgent time to support our communities in need, and this is what Ismaili CIVIC endeavours to achieve. This initiative exemplifies Islam’s core values of service, peace, compassion, and care for the vulnerable.

“This vital donation wouldn't have been possible without the generosity of our partners, Spectrum Care Ltd and Bidfood. It also marks the start of a valuable partnership with FareShare.”

Arif Pradhan, our Spectrum Care Ltd chairman, said: "On behalf of all the members, we're delighted to make this donation to FareShare. We're delighted to be able to offer our support during this difficult time, and work with one of our key suppliers, Bidfood. This is a really meaningful collaboration, and we've been truly humbled by their offer to match our donation.

“This donation marks the start of an exciting partnership between Spectrum Care Ltd, its suppliers and Ismaili CIVIC. We'll be working towards improving the quality of life of our wider community.”
